Microneedling

Microneedling at Swãe

Rebuild Skin From the Inside Out

Your skin repairs itself constantly, but with age and sun exposure that process slows down and collagen production drops. Microneedling gives it a reason to speed back up. A device with very fine needles makes controlled micro-injuries across the skin, small enough that they heal within hours but numerous enough to set off a repair response.

Over the following weeks, your skin lays down fresh collagen and elastin where the needles passed. That's what smooths rough texture, softens acne scars and fine lines, and tightens the look of enlarged pores. Because the treatment uses your own healing rather than heat or chemicals, it's suitable for most skin types and tones, including darker skin where some lasers carry risk.

The Process

What Happens at a Microneedling Appointment

Plan for about an hour, including numbing time. The treatment itself takes 20 to 30 minutes for the full face.

Your provider checks your skin type, current concerns and any active breakouts or irritation, and sets the needle depth accordingly. Deeper settings address scarring, shallower ones target texture and fine lines.

A topical numbing cream goes on for 20 to 30 minutes so the treatment is comfortable.

The device passes over the skin in sections, adjusting depth for thinner areas like the forehead and around the eyes. You'll feel a light vibration and some scratching, but very little pain.

A calming serum or growth factor product is applied while the channels are still open, so it absorbs deeper than usual. Your skin will look pink, like a mild sunburn, for a day or two.

Who It's For

Is Microneedling Right for You?

Microneedling is one of the most versatile treatments in skin care, and it works across a wide range of skin types. You're likely a good candidate if:

  • Your skin texture feels rough or uneven, or looks dull no matter what products you use
  • You have acne scars, especially shallow rolling or boxcar scars
  • You'd like to soften fine lines around the eyes, mouth or forehead
  • Your pores look enlarged, particularly across the nose and cheeks
  • You have mild sun damage or uneven tone
  • You have a darker skin tone and want a collagen-building treatment without the pigmentation risk of some lasers

Microneedling isn't recommended if you have active acne, eczema or rosacea flares in the treatment area, or if you've taken isotretinoin in the past six months. Your provider will check for these at your consultation.

Benefits

Why Patients Choose Microneedling

Microneedling delivers gradual, natural improvement in the overall quality of your skin, with short downtime and low risk.

A single treatment addresses texture, scarring, fine lines, pores and tone together.
Because it doesn't rely on heat or light, it doesn't carry the pigmentation risk some lasers do on deeper skin.
Expect a day or two of pinkness, then skin that looks fresher than before within a week.
Serums applied during and after treatment reach deeper layers than they would on intact skin.
Collagen keeps building for weeks after each session, so results improve over the course of a series and last well beyond it.
Aftercare

Caring for Your Skin After Microneedling

Your skin is doing its repair work in the days after treatment, so aftercare is about keeping it calm, clean and protected while that happens.

Use only gentle cleanser, a simple hydrating serum and moisturizer for the first three days
Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning and reapply through the day
Sleep on a clean pillowcase and keep your hands off your face for the first 24 hours
Use retinol, acids, vitamin C or exfoliants for at least five days
Wear makeup for 24 hours, or until the pinkness has settled
Exercise, swim, use a sauna or spend time in direct sun for 48 hours

FAQ

Any Questions?

Does microneedling hurt?

With numbing cream, most people feel light pressure and a scratching sensation rather than pain. Bony areas like the forehead can feel more sensitive.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people see the best results from a series of three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Scarring usually needs more sessions than general texture concerns.

When will I see results?

Your skin looks brighter within a week, but the real change comes as collagen builds over the following four to eight weeks. Results continue to improve across the series.

What does recovery look like?

Your skin will be pink and slightly tight for one to two days, similar to a mild sunburn. Some people notice light flaking around day three or four.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?

Yes. It pairs well with growth factor serums, PRP and skin care programs, and your provider can plan how to space it with lasers or peels.

Is microneedling safe for darker skin?

Yes. It's one of the safest collagen-stimulating treatments for deeper skin tones because it doesn't use heat or light.
