Laser Hair Removal
Long-Term Freedom From Shaving and Waxing
Hair grows from follicles under the skin, and each follicle contains pigment. A hair removal laser sends a specific wavelength of light through the skin that's absorbed by that pigment, heating the follicle enough to stop it producing hair. The surrounding skin, which has less pigment, is largely unaffected. The reason it takes a series of sessions is that only follicles in their active growth phase respond to treatment, and at any given time roughly a fifth of your hair is in that phase.
Treating every four to eight weeks catches each follicle as it cycles through. By the end of a series, most people see a 70 to 90 percent reduction in hair, and what regrows is finer and lighter. Newer lasers work safely on a wide range of skin tones, and at Swãe we choose the device and settings around your skin and hair type rather than running a default program.

What Happens at a Laser Hair Removal Appointment
Small areas like the upper lip take 10 minutes. Larger areas like full legs or the back take up to an hour.
Your provider assesses your skin tone and hair color, reviews any medications or sun exposure, and may perform a small test patch to confirm the right settings for your skin.
You'll shave the area 24 hours before your appointment. The skin is cleansed, and a cooling gel may be applied. Protective eyewear is worn throughout.
The handpiece moves across the area in a grid, delivering pulses of light. Most devices have built-in cooling, so each pulse feels like a quick warm snap followed by cold.
A soothing gel or aloe calms the skin. We book your next session four to eight weeks out, depending on the area, and adjust the plan as your hair growth slows.

Is Laser Hair Removal Right for You?
Laser hair removal works for most people, though results depend on the contrast between your hair and your skin. You're likely a good candidate if:
- You're tired of shaving, waxing or plucking and want a lasting alternative
- You get ingrown hairs, razor bumps or irritation from hair removal
- You have dark or medium-brown hair, which absorbs the laser best
- You want to treat areas like the face, underarms, bikini line, legs, arms, chest or back
- You can avoid tanning and sun exposure during your treatment series
- You're able to commit to six to eight sessions spaced over several months
Laser hair removal is less effective on blonde, red, grey or white hair, since there's little pigment for the laser to target. It's also not suitable during pregnancy or if you've recently tanned or used self-tanner on the area.
Why Patients Choose Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal trades a few months of sessions for years of not thinking about hair.
Caring for Your Skin After Laser Hair Removal
Your skin will be mildly sensitive for a day or two, similar to a light sunburn. The main priority is protecting it from heat and sun while it settles.

Any Questions?
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most people describe each pulse as a quick snap, like a rubber band, followed by cooling. Sensitive areas like the bikini line feel more intense than the legs or arms.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people need six to eight sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart for the best result. Hormonal areas like the face or chin may need more.
Is it permanent?
Treated follicles stop growing hair, so you can expect long-term reduction of 70 to 90 percent. Occasional touch-ups once or twice a year keep results maintained.
Can I have laser hair removal if I have darker skin?
Yes. We use devices with wavelengths suited to deeper skin tones and adjust settings carefully to protect your skin.
Why do I need to shave before my appointment?
Shaving leaves the follicle intact while removing surface hair, so the laser's energy goes to the root instead of burning hair above the skin.
Can I have treatment if I'm on medication?
Some medications, particularly antibiotics and acne treatments, increase light sensitivity. Tell your provider what you take so we can plan safely.
